Steve Scher – is a longtime journalist, broadcaster, writer and podcaster. Seattle residents may remember his voice from the Weekday morning program on KUOW; Seattle’s NPR affiliate.

In 2014, Steve and I participated a trip through the Deep South, learning and immersing ourselves in the history of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Steve asked if he could briefly interview me for his “House of Podcasts,” which at the time I did not know what a podcast was. So, I obliged. We are pictured walking through Montgomery, Alabama during our brief conversation.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to be on his show. From time-to-time, I think about had I stuck with my reporting/journalism career path, where I would be. I’ve met and worked with many journalists. Journalistic ethics & integrity is essential to my literature.

Stalley – one of the more underrated hip hop artists. A true wordsmith. His use of literary devices, his flow & cadence. His production and beat selection. His ability to stay in a “lyrical pocket” through alliteration is phenomenal. [listen to Glass Garages] I’m a true student of hip hop, and I believe fellow enthusiasts already know who this is.

First time I heard Stalley was on a song called Address, and his verse instantly stood out especially when I heard this bar:

“Not complacent with the lifestyle… Feels good, but it’s hard to crack a smile when the ones you came up with not around. Roll a joint after picking through the pound/whole perception done change/funny how a 3-hour flight can make your life change.”

From Lincoln Way Nights and beyond, I became an avid listener of his work. He came to the University of Washington in 2013 where I got the opportunity to meet him and have a brief conversation. Super chill guy. I’ve exchanged pleasantries with him on social media & he encouraged me to stay rooted in community. I deeply appreciate artists who take their craft seriously and Stalley is that. Much respect.
